Oracle Pays $35 Million to Settle Overtime Lawsuit

Oracle Corp. has agreed to pay $35 million to settle claims by more than 1,700 Bay Area employees that they were wrongfully denied overtime pay.

Court approval was given Thursday to a settlement of a lawsuit that was filed in 2007 on behalf of workers at the software company's offices in Redwood City and Pleasanton.  A total of 1,725 employees are eligible to share in the settlement.

The settlement does not include any admission of wrongdoing, and Oracle spokeswoman Kimberly Pineda said the company had no comment.  The suit involved three groups of employees: quality assurance workers, who test Oracle software; technical analysts, who provide customer support and answer questions; and project managers, who coordinate tasks for other employees.

Knowing what to do and how to get things done is usually very important. Naturally, it really is also very important to know the way in which to get it done. But that is not enough by itself; it does not conclude there. Knowing just what exactly NOT to do and what mistakes to avoid is also important. The simplest way to achieve that is to discover what mistakes others have made when seeking lawsuit loans and settlement loans so you can steer clear of making those same mistakes.

We have forgotten the basic SOCIAL CONTRACT of rights and responsibilities that binds us together as a society. Society expects citizens to follow laws it has instated in order to protect individuals and institutions. Without these laws there would be chaos -- the strong would simply take anything they wanted and the rest would have no recourse. In return the social contract guarantees that if people follow these rules or responsibilities they will be guaranteed basic rights - life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
